lt en AuthorsPieter KoningCountry: Ireland Pieter Koning was born in the Netherlands in 1948. Before he started his study at the art school Artibus in the Netherlands in 1972, he studied sociology for three years. He abandoned his study and dedicated himself to sculpturing. Later he was taught by qualified stone sculptors for two years. His first group exhibition was in 1972 in The van Reekum Gallery in the Netherlands and was followed by five group exhibitions throughout Holland from 1973 until 1980. He emigrated to Ireland in 1980, where he settled in Caherciveen, Co. Kerry and opened his Art Studio in 1985 where he now gives sculpture courses during the summer. In 1982 Pieter had his first group exhibition in Ireland in the "Solomon Gallery" in Dublin which was followed by group exhibitions in "Cork Arts Society", Cork, the "Frank Lewis Gallery", Killarney, "Siamsa Tíre", Tralee and locally in Caherciveen. His work was chosen in the G.P.A. exhibition in "The Royal Hospital", Dublin in 1986 and the year after in the solo exhibition in the Municipal Art Gallery in Cork. Sculptures and paintings of Pieter Koning are in private collections throughout Ireland, U.K., Germany and the U.S.A. Some of his works are in the collection of the Dutch Government.
