Čeponis Jonas

In 1951, he graduated from the Lithuanian Institute of Art.
1977–1980 – lecturer at the Vilnius Engineering and Construction Institute
1980–1988 – lecturer at the Lithuanian Institute of Art
Since 1988 – professor

He began participating in exhibitions in 1951.
From 1963 to 1997, he held solo exhibitions in Lithuania, Russia, Poland, Germany, and the USA.
His work was influenced by Fauvism.

He mainly painted expressive landscapes of Lithuanian villages and Vilnius (“Panorama of Vilnius”, 1960; “L. Stuoka-Gucevičius Street”, 1963; “Trees in Autumn”, 1969; “Gothic Vilnius”, 1970; “Palūšė”, 1973; “Evening in the Harbor”, 1980; “Aukštaitija”, 1986; “Composition No. 2”, 1992; “Silhouettes”, “Mysterious Evening”, both 1994).

These works feature abstracted motifs presented either fragmentarily or panoramically, outlined with decorative, contrasting color combinations. He also painted portraits, still lifes, figurative compositions, and nudes.
