The distinctive features of Aistė Gabrielė Černiūtė’s painting are the viscosity of the paint and the “feltness” of the strokes, figuration and theatrical/poetic touches. The artist promotes the concept of pastose painting: numerous layers of paint lie on top of each other, covering the previous ones or penetrating them like stained glass. As the eye moves from one corner of the canvas to the other, fragments of the primer appear in some places, imprimatur in others, and various lesouras or thick, buttery areas in others. In principle, this is the essence of the essence of each painting. The movement of the hand when laying, laying, and layering the layers of paint is also important. In some places, the wrist works, in others, the whole hand. Here and there, the strokes move in all directions (as if restless spirits are looking for a place), elsewhere – as if attacking armies are running in parallel… Moreover, there is no composition that would not do without an inclusive figure. Most often – a person or a plant. Figures jump out from the surface, towards the viewer or hide from him, gesticulate, try to expand the format, make contact or close deeply in themselves… As if in a Calderonian or Chekhovian theater, various mise-en-scenes are played out. These are cheerful, non-binding, or tragically instructive stories. Each work has a different mood and theme. All this changes as if by reciting different verses. Poetry is close to Baudelaire or Ponge – in a separate pictorial area that obeys the whole and forms it, symbolism and surrealism, magic and charlatanism, comedy and tragedy, celebration and everyday life are combined…
