Dereškevičius Kostas

In 1967 he graduated from the Lithuanian Institute of Arts, teachers were Antanas Gudaitis, Vladas Karatajus, Vladas Mackevičius. 1971-1980. Vilnius University, from 1980. Lithuanian Institute of Arts (from 1990 Vilnius Academy of Arts) lecturer, from 1993. professor, from 1995. Vice-rector.

His work is dominated by paintings on urban themes, which depict everyday life situations and unsightly objects with irony and grotesque: advertising poles, posters, windows, trolleybus doors (cycle “Windows” 1969-1980, “Van”, “Trolleybus” 1980, “Remains of Posters” 1985). He painted figurative compositions (cycle “On the Road” 1974-1976), portraits, mostly of women (“Woman with an Umbrella” 1977, “Nature Woman O. B.” 1980, “Disco Singer” 1984), self-portraits (1968, 1974), landscapes, still lifes, abstract compositions (“Painting with Blues” 1992, “Caught Figure” 1993, “Falling Diagonally” 1994). The paintings are emotional, with vivid drawings, expressive colors, and often fragmentary compositions of a flat image.
