Eduardas Juchnevičius (1942 01 13-2011 08 19)

Born on 13 January 1942 in the village of Vanaginė, Kelmė district. Graphic artist, poet, playwright. In 1960-1968, he studied graphic art at the State Institute of Art (teachers – A. Kučas, V. He worked in the fields of printmaking, book illustrations, and bookplates. His favorite technique is linocut. The works of the expressionist artist Eduardas Juchnevičius are characterized by irony and grotesque. His prints contain many household attributes, cartoon figures, and ironic depictions of human relationships, and he does not shy away from mocking the emerging bourgeois. In the artist’s prints, the silhouette drawing is combined with forms enriched with various textures. Transforming figures and forms, he seems to divide them into parts. The juxtaposition of contrasting black and white areas in his sheets helps to create tension and convey the curiosity of the situation.
In 2010, he was awarded the Government Culture and Art Prize.
Died on August 19, 2011 in Šiauliai.
