Klova Boleslovas

Monumental artist. Born on November 18, 1927 in Tirkšliai (Mažeikiai district). Died on May 26, 1986 in Kaunas.
Honored Artist of the LSSR (1977). In 1951 he graduated from the Kaunas Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts. From 1950 to 1964 he was a teacher at the Kaunas Secondary Art School, from 1964 he was a lecturer at the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (associate professor – 1976). Since 1952 he has been participating in exhibitions. In 1977 he held a solo exhibition in Kaunas.

B. Klova created ceramic (1963), stone mosaics (“Youth” 1969, “Birds” 1976), compositions for building exteriors (“Nemunas” and “Ratnyčėlė” for the Druskininkai balneotherapy clinic, 1960; “Happy childhood” for the Kulautuva sanatorium school, 1963; “Flight” for Kaunas airport, 1971; Pasvalys culture house, 1983) and interiors (portraits – Juozas Tallat-Kelpša for the Vilnius Tallat-Kelpša music school, 1957), models of mosaic projects (“Plaukikės” 1975; “Dance” 1976; “Girl with a flower” 1977). He published the book “Lithuanian monumental decorative painting” (1975).

The artist’s work was influenced by the work of J. Mikėnas. The works are characterized by monumental compositions, expressive contours of forms, and restrained colors.
