Marčius Rolandas

Rolandas Marčius (born 1974) is a young generation painter, born and raised in Klaipėda. In 1994-1998 he studied at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. In 1998-2009 he lived and worked in the USA. Since 2012 he has been a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union. The author’s works have been exhibited in galleries in New York, Chicago, Memphis (USA). In 2008 he organized his first exhibition in Lithuania “Immortals are mortal, mortals are immortal…”, in which he exhibited portraits of children who suffered from the war. He currently lives and works in Klaipėda, actively participates in exhibitions, plein airs, and organizes art workshops.

In the exhibition “Expositions”, R. Marčius continues the theme of X-ray aesthetics analyzed earlier in his work. The artist searches for connections between emotional state, nature, and the physical body, rejecting issues of gender, race, age, and health status. The flat surfaces of the tomographic photographs gain volume on the canvas. Next to the subcutaneous structure, unexpectedly captured objects – rings, coins, medals, hairpins, a weapon, metal teeth, etc. – act here as hints to a possible narrative. The author uses the aforementioned objects as references, symbols to certain social, professional or value-based groups of people.
