Šaltenis Arvydas

Arvydas Šaltenis (born October 18, 1944 in Klevėnai, Skiemoniai rural municipality, Utena county) – artist, painter, political and public figure of the Lithuanian and Vilnius city municipality. In 1950-1961 he studied at the 2nd secondary school in Utena. In 1961-1964 and 1967-1970 he studied painting at the Art Institute of the LSSR. In 1964-1967 he served in the Soviet army. In 1970-1971 he was an employee of the Art Fund of the LSSR Artists’ Union. In 1971-1975 and 1981-1988 he was a teacher at the Vilnius Children’s Art School. In 1987-1990 he was the executive secretary of the LSSR Artists’ Union.

1975-1981 LSSR Art Institute, 1988-1994. Lecturer, head of the department, associate professor at the Department of Painting of the Vilnius Academy of Arts (VDA). In 1992. Internship in Paris with a scholarship from the French Ministry of Culture. 1994-2004. Rector of the VDA, 2004-2010. Vice-Rector for Art and Science, since 2010. Vice-Rector for Art; since 2000. Professor. Teaches drawing, painting, composition.

Since 1975. Member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union. 1976-1990. Member of the Artists’ Section Bureau, member of the M. K. Čiurlionis Society. 1989-1999. Chairman of the Vilnius City Lazdynai Church Community. Since 1994. Member of the Lithuanian Rectors’ Conference, since 1995 President of the Uteniškės Krastičios Club “Indraja”.

Spouse Aldona Šaltenienė, child Antanas Kristupas. Father – educator and literary critic Rapolas Šaltenis. Brother – writer Saulius Šaltenis.
