Trušys Vitolis

Childhood and first school years passed in Pušalotas. Lived in Kuršėnai, studied at Garliava Secondary School, graduated from Pušalotas Secondary School. In 1955-1961. studied at the Art Institute of the Lithuanian SSR. Since 1961. Lecturer, associate professor, professor at the Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute, in 1965-1974. Head of the Department of Drawing, later Head of the Department of Art Didactics. Since 1964. Member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union. Since 2006. Retired. His paintings and watercolors were exhibited in many foreign countries. He held individual exhibitions in Šiauliai (1967, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1975, 1986), Vilnius (1968, 1975), Daugavpils (1967). He created frescoes (“History of Medicine”, 1973; “Bison Hunt”, 1974), mosaics (“From Lithuanian Mythology” at Vilnius University, 1978; “Tree of Life” at Šiauliai Hospital, 1982; Jovaras, 1964; Peliksas Bugailiškis, Ignas Prielgauskas, both 1980), easel paintings, watercolors, drawings. His works have been acquired by all major Lithuanian museums and private foreign collectors.

Works kept in the Lithuanian Art Museum: “Mother” (1966), “Still Life with a Clock” (1968), “Autumn near Plateliai” (1978), “Autobiography” (1987), etc. Monumental mosaics by the artist are in the Drama Theatre, Šiauliai College, Šiauliai University and elsewhere. Unfortunately, some of V. Trušys’ works were destroyed during various reconstructions.

The artist created numerous portraits, landscapes, historical paintings in watercolor, pastel, pencil, oil, collage, fresco, sgraffito, mosaic techniques. The professor has also published a book of poetry. He created the Šiauliai Art Centre, organized the first public exhibitions of children’s work, which spread throughout the country. His pedagogical and creative activities have been recognized with many awards, and for the mosaic “From Lithuanian Mythology” he won the 1979 State Prize at Vilnius University. In 1979, a monograph was published about V. Trušys.
