
Žirnitė Nelė
Nelė Zirnitė was born in Lithuania, studied graphic design in Vilnius, and later graduated from the Latvian Academy of Arts. Since 1985, she has been a member of the Latvian Artists’ Union and actively participates in international exhibitions.
A middle-generation artist, a lecturer at the Latvian Academy of Arts, she is a world-renowned graphic artist. Her works have been exhibited in art galleries in the USA and Europe on several occasions. In 2005, she was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Biennial of Small-Form Graphics held in Breslau (Czech Republic). Nelė Zirnitė’s works are presented in the famous publication “The Best of Printmaking” (1997, Rockport Publisher – Gloucester, USA), which publishes the works of 250 of the world’s best graphic designers. She also won the main prize at the “9th Tallinn Graphic Triennial”, Estonia.
“Nexus” is Nelė Zirnitė’s 19th personal exhibition. The graphic artist develops the traditional etching technique, paying great attention to surreal motifs, sensitive tonal gradation, and drawing delicate lines. According to the author, her “work has always been centered on a person – a carrier of a life form, so strong and so weak at the same time…”
