Murinas Bronius

Born in 1906 in Riga. During the First World War, he lived with his parents in Petrograd and Moscow. In 1918-1922, he studied at the Linkuva Gymnasium, in 1923-1928 – at the Kaunas Art School, in the painting studio (Antanas Samuolis, Viktoras Vizgirda, Jonas Voicechavičius-Vaitys, Ignas Piščikas, Rimtas Kalpokas, etc. studied together). After graduating from the Kaunas Art School in 1928, he worked at the Kaunas Teachers’ Seminary and the Women’s School of Fine Arts. In 1932-1935, having received a scholarship from the Ministry of Education, he deepened his studies in Paris at the Boulle Art School (Ecole Boulle). In 1935-1939, he taught at the Klaipėda and 1939-1944 Vilnius Pedagogical Institutes. He wrote textbooks: “Drawing on the Blackboard” (1936), “Compositional Drawing” (1937), “Drawing from a Child’s Environment”. In 1940-1944 he lived and worked in Germany, and since 1949 – in the USA, in Chicago. Member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union (1930), member of the Lithuanian-American Artists’ Union (1950) and chairman of the board, member of the American Artists’ Union. Until his retirement, he worked for the Chicago Railway Company (as a painter, later – a draftsman, translator). Died 1986

Participated in exhibitions since 1936. Held more than 20 personal exhibitions – in Klaipėda (1936), Rottweil (1948), Čiurlionis Gallery (Chicago), 1957, 1962, 1965, 1971, 1976, 1981), Detroit (1960), Boston (1968), Brooklyn (1972). He exhibited his works in collective exhibitions in the USA and Europe. In 1954-1957. He won three first and one second prizes in US artist exhibitions.
