Skačkauskas Algis

Algis Skačkauskas was born in 1955. In 1983 he graduated from the Vilnius Institute of Art. Member of the Artists’ Union.

Algis Skačkauskas appeared in Lithuanian art in the middle of the last century. His paintings are extremely picturesque. All his works are original in color, full of subtlety, sensitive touch, so each painting is bright and distinctive. The artist is very interested in the life of ordinary people, their spirit and inner world. All this is perfectly shown in his works.

The creative path of A. Skačkauskas has several stylistic stages: the accents of his early works (the 1980s) are a long, plastic and light stroke, a soft shade, pastel color.

Between the 1980s and 1990s, the artist began to paint wonderful paintings. He used bright, lively, light colors and a dark (most often black) background. In the early 1990s, his work had more nuances – without a strong touch, you can feel the vibration of the painting; next to the pastel – tense, energetic color combinations.

By creating emotional, expressive and spontaneous works, A. Skačkauskas continues the Lithuanian artistic traditions. The life of a person working the land, compositions with domestic animals – goats, sheep, geese, etc. are A. Skačkauskas’ favorite heroes of paintings.

The artist stands out not only for his talent in creating exceptional art, but also for his ability to analyze the content of the painting. A. Skačkauskas always strives to find semantic meaning. That is why his works reflect allusions to literary, historical aspects.

Algis Skačkauskas participates in various exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad – in Latvia, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Norway, France, Great Britain, the USA (New York, Los Angeles) and other countries.

A. Skačkauskas’ works have been acquired by foreign museums and private collectors
